Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
Hey all! I just became the proud owner of a Canon Digital Rebel XT. This is my first SLR camera (I upgraded from a Sony Cybershot). I love the races (cars) and I've finally got a camera capable of taking some killer action photos. My question is about lenses. I think for straight daylight shooting, I'd be ok with a lower end 70-200 lens, but I'm not sure about doing the night photography. Is there a decently priced lens that would help me get good action at night? Thanks in advance for the help.

By night action, I am assuming you mean night racing action?

For that, you are going to want an f/2.8 lens or the f/4 (at the slowest). There are several f/2.8's available in the third party brands at around $800 range, like this: Sigma f/2.8 70-200

The Canon f/4 L is about $540: Canon f/4 70-200 L

I don't know if you consider these "decently priced" or not.

Thanks for the tips Sabbath! My next question would be, I'm not going to have the luxury of a tripod for any of this....how will that affect me? Please forgive my total noobness...:)
