More Portrait Practice--Comments and Critiques??

Took some time tonight to practice. These are two of the photographs that came out pretty well. I had a large (60") umbrella camera left, and a flash behind my head. Thoughts on these? I really like the rim-light and the way it lit up my breath.

The breath/smoke/whatever that is. . . . looks a bit strange. It appears to be behind you, and I did not realize it was "breath" until I read your post. . . I was wondering where the smoke was coming from. I like them though, but think the smokey breath is oddly distracting

Thanks! My mom was also unsure what it was until I told her it was my breath. I just thought it added an intriguing element.

The lighting is good, but I have to agree, the whole breath thing doesn't look quite right.

The lighting is good?! Thanks! That means a lot to me! I've been working so hard on improving my lighting techniques.
