what am I looking for criticism in: Compostion and post processing techniques, my biggest work area at the moment, i want to get it spot on.

what type of criticism: Constructive, i don't always want to know the bad stuff, even though in cases it can be good to know, sometimes i like to hear the encouraging good bits and advice how to solve the bad bits. just saying "it's noisy" doesn't really give me anything to work on.

Why have i done this: so you know what i'm looking for, makes it easier for you and me then.

1.
1.jpg

it has had some toning on photoshop, the original one had an annoying date on it which i removed and gave it a little pzazz, i hope :P

2.
101_1817.jpg

no post processing just a sepia effect in the camera.
3.
101_1856.jpg

needed a splash of colour no post processing, i know overexposed, but like i said, composition is my main goal.
4.
101_1888.jpg

no post processing
5.

my pet shark, softened effect, and this one was taken on my phone.
those are the first five to munch on. i didn't want to drive the other thread off topic.

Without discussing the attributes of these images specifically, perhaps I could offer a suggestion? Rather than shooting anything and everything with all sorts of different parameters, perhaps concentrate on one style or general category of subject to improve your basic skills in that area and then move on? The difficulty I see you encountering is that you are shooting such a wide variety of subject matter requiring such diverse settings, you're not really able to focus on the basics.

so you are saying just take photos of flowers and plants til i get good at it, then wildlife, then landcapes, so on and so forth?

#1 very busy composition. You need to make your subject standout. The crop is also top heavy, you don't need all the empty space at the bottom.
#2 I kinda like this shot, it has a old time feel to it. The DoF you used is interesting.
#3 There is pretty much nothing that is interesting about this shot. The gummies you threw around look very random and add nothing to the shot. Look up some ipod shots on flickr and try to figure out what kinda shot you want!!
#4 This looks like you took a shot of your carpet? I find the lines a little interesting but not anything great. It's kinda hard to help you w/ the composition on this.
#5 This shot is sooo OOF that it isn't worth commenting on.

thank you for the links and the comments mishele.
1. right, i'll fix that up later on, thank you
2. thank you :D i have to say all my shots of that ford fairlane 500 car were my favorites on that day.
3. i'd actually organised those gummies XD but you can't really expect much from that one, i did it out of boredom on a wedding day :P
4. it's a canoe on my nan's farm it had algae or fungus growing on it and insects had left marks on it, so i took a photo for photoshopping resources.
5. go ahead that image is old and was taken with the worst phone ever :P so you can be as horrible as you want :D

zeealex.......you really need to think about the shots that you are posting....=) If you already know that shots 3 and 5 are nothing more than snap shots, please don't waste our time by posting them. Post shots that you think are good or that you can learn learn from.:

right got one from a day out this week that i am proud of (that's rare)
attachment.php
