I decided to drag my lazy a** off bed for a morning hike. Arrived at the wetland about 20 minutes before sunrise. I think I will do this more often... It's quite nice with fresh air in the morning and captured a few shots. (JacaRanda - this is at Bolsa Chica Wetland).

1. Morning light

2. Looking for early breakfast

3. Young juvenile hawk (don't know what type? red tailed hawk?)

4. Another shot of him/her - My timing was bad on flight shot... I was ready for the take-off shot but it happened every single time when I decided to rest my arm... He took off... Almost everytime...

Al,

Love the light on the snowy Egret (#2) and 3 and 4 are a Falcon, looks like a peregine, but not sure what varieties you have out that way..

Thanks for the info, Kris. You are probably right.

Ah great to see you made it down Wackii. I am really liking the silhouette and I do think that is a peregrine. Would be great to see one swoop down and grab a bird. I missed by 20 minutes one grabbing an avocet about a month ago. Fastest animal in the world. 200 mph I believe.

Thanks, JacaRanda. That little guy was just calling for mama or something and flew away.

Very nice! Especially #2.

Thanks, Baturn.

Great shots wackii, realy love #2. And that definitely is a peregrine falcon. You need to be a champion birder to photograph one of these in flight. Near to impossible.

Thanks, Raj. I'm no where near that level. My arms are tired shooting these handheld. I don't know how Kris (Coastalconn) does it. I believe he uses the same lens and handhelds it well. I need to go to the gym and do some workout.

You may always ask Kris how many push ups he does everyday before his shooting sessions begin ;)

Hahaha. As for me in of April 2014, I did a total of ZERO push-ups...
