Motorcycle Shots 5/18 - D3

It was a great night for a sunset. Found a nice view to take some shots. Feel free to critique them as much as possible. Cant put this D3 down

Once I realized how bad the background was(blown out didnt have a cp) I then changed the angle to this

Wow, I just looked at these and for some reason the quality is bad and seems noisy. I can assure you this is not the case.

the bike is crisp and clean, the focus and exposure are fine but the "pose" is rather dull and the background/foreground unappealing. Take that bike to a hilltop, a wooded, twisty road, a lake or seaside. Make it stand out!

I have to find better angles. Ill read a few cycle worlds and go from there. I tried this shot but didnt work out. Ill do some homework and post when I have time to re-shoot.

Yes, I'm trying to get along the shore. I did a great shot of my road king years ago. This was just a last min fun thing on a back road. All natural lighting of course.

I'd like to know how a CP would stop you blowing out the background.

Wouldn't it give some color back? I haven't used it in a while. I have a 67mm which was for my old 18-135. I need a 77mm.

What aperture/ISO were you shooting with for the first images? The bike seems soft to me, almost as if there was some diffraction going on due to a very small aperture... Which would detract from the overall sharpness.

Also, the glass you're using would be helpful too.

CP filters will help cut glare and reduce reflections, and can make a blue sky look more saturated on a sunny day, but it won't help put color back into a blown out sky like this (assuming you keep the overall exposure the same, compensating for the loss in light from the filter).

Tyler I'll get back to you tomorrow, don't remember settings. I wana say f11, 1/80, 800iso on a 50 f1.8DFokker It really wasn't as bad as it seems, I am almost positive I could have gotten some color back

Hmm, f/11 might be in the range of where diffraction would start. I'd be interested to see shots at f/5.6 - f/8 at a lower ISO. How do you feel about the shots? Do they seem sharp to you? It could be compression on my end, but I have a feeling using a slightly larger aperture might help out with the IQ.

Again I promise much sharper here. I am trying to shoot f8 or smaller. In the past, I rarely shot beyond f6.3. Just exploring various set ups.
