Moving from Windows to Mac

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum and come with a question about file compatibility. I have (had) a Windows PC that has recently crashed. My data is backed up and I'm not worried about losing it, but I would like to go with a Macbook of sorts for my new set up. My only question is will my RAW and JPEG files on those HDD's be seen easily when placed in an external case and plugged into the mac?

If not, any advice on how to preserve these files without a Windows machine?

Mac will understand JPG just fine, as to RAW it will depend on what software your using on the Mac and what format the RAW files are in but I doubt it will present much of a problem. Most of the Mac software, like most Windows software, has updates that will allow you to read most form of RAW files out there.

It'll be fine.

You have hard drives like a PC, and external drives like a PC. You even have a built in backup solution called "time machine" into the Mac OS.

Just one thing to note - it's probably better when you get your Mac to copy over all files from your HDDs to it, reformat the HDDs as Mac OS Journaled, and then re-write the files back to it.

Just for completeness sake. Just means you won't be able to easily plug these back into a PC without software.

Phew, that is all good news to hear. Thanks to you both for the heads up. I'm a little anxious with my data in limbo. This calms me a good bit.
