Multi Strap Solution

My wife got me a Blackrapid RS-7 sling for Christmas and I love it! It’s the most comfortable strap I've used and makes walking around with heavy gear like it isn't even there.

Anyway I still want to be able to use a standard strap in the standard position when running a flash. I started looking into aftermarket straps that allow for quick removal. After some research I found the OP/TECH Adapt-its seemed to be just what I wanted. They provide a low profile quick connect mount that does not obstruct buttons or functions of the camera.

OP/TECH also offers straps that have snap hooks that will work with the adapt-its but I'm cheap and didn't want to buy another strap with snap hooks on them when my 7D strap is in good shape.

Started looking for Lobster claw snap hooks preferably that swivel, but was not having luck finding any online at a decent price with shipping.

Ended up not buying any online but going to Hobby Lobby and found a 5 pack for 3 bucks, at the register I find out it was 50% off, so 5 of them for $1.50 can’t beat it, better price than anything I found online.

Attached to Canon strap and they seemed fine.

Received the adapt-its and attached to camera (used my old used and abused canon as prop)

Now my cousin who is a pro photographer was concerned with using non camera specific gear, mainly the snap hooks and if they would hold up to use and weight of camera gear. I wanted to test the static weight capability of the snap hook for my own peace of mind.

Found some objects that could be strung up and weighted them, both ammo cans weighted in at 80lbs.

Using some nylon string I attached the two ammo cans and lifted from the center using just a single hook and the stock strap.

I tested this multiple times and even carried a single can around the house up and down stairs. Tested it again with the 80lb load and still no failure.

So it seems this strap will work for what I want to do with it and for under 6 dollars ill take it. I understand an aftermarket strap will be much more comfortable but then again I’m cheap. This solution is just a cheap example of what some one could do if there in the same situation I am in. 80% of the time I don’t run a flash, but for that 20% I don’t want it hanging at my side upside down where it could get accidently broke.
