My attempt at food photography

Hey first time poster! Ive been into photography for bout 2 months now and im in love!! cant stop taking photos, anyways heres my first 2 attempts at lighting/taking/editing a photo of an apple. Tell me how i can improve it guys. Im having problems with cloning (i used a skewer to hold up the apple on the right hand side) i can still slightly notice where it was.
1st photo is my first attempt at editing and second is my final one.

i put a skewer through it and held it in the air with some books and then i cloned out the skewer so it looks like its floating. Look on the right hand side in the middle of the apple, you can tell it's been cloned out if you look long enough
