Since I didn't see an astrophotography forum, I hope this is a good place. August 2017th we drove up to near Casper Wyoming to attempt photographing the total eclipse. Some friends of my sister had a big ranch right on the path of totality where we camped out the night before. Anyway, here is my first attempt to photograph a total eclipse (I did a lot of research and practiced before we went up). I hope I have another opportunity some day.

Wow! Looks like a black hole from a syfy movie. Great stuff.

Thanks! Here's a couple other pics from that event. The period of totality from where we were was just under 2 and a half minutes.

At moment of totality, for brief moment, Baily's Beads can be seen. The last little bit of sun shining through the peaks and valleys on the moon's surface.

For a first try, this is a great shot. If it were mine, I would be hanging it on the wall.

These are really good, The second shot is my favorite. :)

Really cool pics, good job and just a side note … it has one of my all time favorite songs going through my head now. Manfred Mann's, "Blinded by the Light."

Click anywhere on the map, and a small window will pop up with all sorts of eclipse data for that location.

Looks like the event in 2024 would likely be my last opportunity to witness an eclipse. This event in 2017 was actually the second total eclipse my wife and I had pleasure of seeing. Back in February 1979, I was in the Air Force and we were stationed at Malmstrom AFB, Great Fall, Montana. There was an eclipse in North America that year and we lived right in the path of totality. Just a happy coincidence. USA - 1979 February 26 Total Solar Eclipse - Interactive Google Map - Xavier Jubier

I wasn’t into photography back then so didn't get any pictures, but we had a great show that day and only had to step out into the back yard to see it.

good photo, for sure
