What's new

My first C&C

I tried to incorporate some new angles

I only see one angle shot three times. At least two of them have proper WB (#1 & #3).

I hate telling people what to shoot but...

Put the guitar in a pitch black room. Take a flashlight and light it up in different areas, see what looks cool to you... then, try and recreate that look in camera. Don't rush. We will wait.

Dude, you are getting some REALLY good lessons from both Bitter and p!nk, I'm kinda jealous lol.

DEFINITELY take advantage of this.

Syrup shot, swing and miss again. Underexposed an very noisy (1600 iso).

Keep it up though, the more you shoot, and the more these guys help out, the better you'll be.

You need to have fun with it, but at some point you have to really think about what you are doing. Flickr searches are a decent resource to see what others are doing, both good and bad. It's a great resource for ideas as well.

You're funny, and I can tell you're excited about photography.
While people will tell you to keep shooting, I will tell you to keep thinking about what you are shooting, and your intent.

Your syrup shot coupled with the "inspirational moment" cracked me up.
Now THINK ABOUT IT. What about setting up a shot of pouring syrup on pancakes?

ProTip #1: Always pay attention to your background. Cluttered, messy, busy backgrounds are distracting and take away from your subject.

So, than maybe if i do it on the table, and the background just being my wall in the living room, and i had my aunt pour it, haha
Welll for the inspirational thing i was making waffles, pouring the syrup, and when i was done, i didnt want to get it on the cap, so i slowly let it stop, and i was like BINGG I GOT IT!And called my aunt haha i really liked it
Tomorrow, when people who can help are awake i wanna put some thought and work into that shot, haha
Thankyou again soo soo much : )

And As for the iso settings, whats my best shot to take that picture?

What setting?

Hahahahaha...the age old question.

The answer is "it depends on the light".

You are shooting on AUTO?

High ISO increases light sensitivity of the sensor, for shooting in low light. It allows for faster shutter speeds, which will reduce blur or camera shake for hand held shots. The drawback is if you don't nail the exposure, you have increased noise.

When shooting in auto, the camera adjusts everything to get the shot.

You can't just lower the ISO without creating other issues.

MY iso setting was 1600, sooo maybe i should just keep it set as auto for now?

Okay, so this morning i suited up in my longjohns and my sweatshirts, and went out to take bitter's advice
I think the sun was giving me a big problem, dont you guys say its the worst time to take photos around noon? Well, i see what you mean, haha
But i tried from the side angle, but i couldnt get the first one in cause tehre is a wall right next to it, so i could only use 3 bushes
But i tried to show the repeating pattern, and heres that
sfcinc.jpg

I think its decent myself, even though it probably isnt, haha
I also took p!nk's advice with the dark room, it took me forever to find a good shot, because of unpleasing shadows and whatnot
So here these are.. idk i had fun shooting, i positioned two LED flashlights on the table just above the guitar, i had my iso settings on auto, and so was my whitebalance
So yeah here these are

I know it seems like they may be too much depth of field? and only a little bit is focused, but like you were talking about the repeating pattern, i like most of the pattern maybe blurred out, but you can tell what it is
Well, all comments and anything is welcome!
Thankyou!

Oh, and the wb... ive been using auto, should i start setting it? Or just keep it on auto?
Thanks!

I liked this one too. The tilt was bothering me so I took it into LR for a quick edit....

Guitarshot1-2 by Matt Francosky, on Flickr

What I did was:
-Leveled the photo.
-Cropped out the background.
-Major noise reduction (why are you shooting these at ISO 1600?!?)
-Tweaked the WB, not sure if it is 100% correct but it is close.
-Tweaked the black value.
-Bumped the saturation a bit to make the orange and rosewood pop a bit more.
-Added some vignetting for effect.

The guitar is rotated ever so slightly counterclockwise. This is throwing the symmetry of the photo off that would have made it much stronger. This is also why I had to crop out the neck- it was causing a major fun house effect.
