What's new

My first HDR shot. C&C

not exactly. Either include the cars wholely or don't have them but to have them chopped off as they are doesn't lend anything to the shot.

I liked it! I would have preferred you not cut off the right side of the diner. I also like Trever1t's idea of bringing the framing down to include less sky and more parking lot.

Considering what this shot would have probably looked like without exposure blending, I think you did a good job with the processing. I don't care for the composition, but that's another story. :)

I wanna hear that side of the story! :)

Very well! :D And sorry if any of this is a repeat...

#1 White car is chopped. That's really bad imo. While it doesn't really fit the classic diner theme, it is still a strong element in the photo and if not included as a whole, it being cropped is drawing attention to itself. Instead of the car being just a car, it's a car with the tire cut in half. No bueno.

#2 The red car bumper is getting cropped as well, or at best touching the edge. Give them some breathing room. If you have to modify the aspect ratio, so be it. I say crop the way the photo is best composed and don't worry about standard ratios.

#3 Too much empty sky above without anything actually in the sky. If you had some stars and the moon, then that'd be awsome. But there just isn't anything there to warrant the empty space. And considering you clipped the white car's tires to get that extra empty space makes me wonder extra hard why.

It's all subjective though, you've been around here long enough to know that; so there aren't any hard rules, so these things are just the way I see it. There is probably an art movement out there somewhere that purposely includes empty sky and cuts tires in half, and who is to say that isn't valid? But I'm guessing there aren't many people in it.

I'm amazed Bynx isn't yelling at you guys.

Anyway, for an HDR it seems kinda lacking... there's not a lot of dynamic range. I would expect to see much more than I see.

As a plain old night shot, it seems fairly well done.

Composition notwithstanding.
