My first stitched photo

My girlfriend made some awesome mulled apple cider (with cinnamon sticks, oranges, and spiced rum - but that's off-topic ), and I got some pretty cool shots of her trying it on the porch. I wanted to stitch three of them together, but I only have Lightroom for editing, and needed to use Gimp for the stitching. Aside from seeming to compress the shots, I couldn't get it to auto-place the third photo/layer - it layered it over the second photo, and I had to drag it into place by hand. I think that's why that black line is at the bottom.

Anyone know of a good free/cheap program that will let me do stitching in the future, or a better technique using Gimp? Also, general comments/criticism are always appreciated.

Shot with a Canon T3 and 40mm/2.8.

I too started with the Gimp for stitching panoramas by hand, but it's a pain in the butt lining everything up. Now I use Hugin, which works pretty well. Hugin - Panorama photo stitcher

why are you layering these? are you making some sort of animated gif?
