These are some really nice night photos!
Amazing how fast newcomers to the hobby venture out into the night these days - or was it only me who had been taking photos for some 30+ years before she ever tried her hands on her very first night photos? Could be ... and yet: I am always quite amazed to see photos of those who say they are newbies turn out so good! Or am I reading things wrong and you are only just a newcomer to TPF, but not to photography as such?

Yes, this really was my first night out with my D80 (or any of my cameras). I'm not new to photography in general, I've had digital point and shoot cameras for several years now and a Canon AE-1 that I still tote around but never worked up the nerve to head out at night.

I guess the main motivational factor is the fact that I'm not spending tons of cash on film. I don't like the pictures, I delete and retake them. However I do keep some of the pics that do not turn out well and use them as a learning tool.

I want to learn what is going on in the shots that do not turn out well (and what went on in the ones that did turn out well). I don't want my hobby of photography to turn into a crapshoot where I just point the camera at something and hope the picture turns out ok.

I am however new to The Photo Forum and am enjoying seeing everyone's own approach to photography.

Great shots all. but for me the 1st is best, I love the colour of the sky and the subtle touches of green

The 2nd one looks best to me with the lighter skies, but all are quite nice. All look well exposed and framed!

Where in LITH is that? Never seen it before, looks nice!
