Wondering what you all think of the composition of this one.

I think that since one of the girls is posing and the other is not, it looks as though the girl who is not posing made it into the shot accidentally. IMO, both should be decorating, or both should be smiling. Know what I mean? I'd also move your Hillary Duff fan a little more to the left...only a touch, so she's still off center, but not so close to the edge.

you should have maybe tried to catch them off-guard

And if you take your flash off camera, you will get better catchlights and probably avoid the red eye on the back little girl.
