This area is as wild as it gets around here. Ten years ago the only way in was either a multiday hike up the coast or an ATV from the north. I tried to get a car up here and had to turn around about an hour from where I was trying to get to when I realized I was literally driving on a snowmobile trail and it kept getting more narrow. Ten years later and a private group has developed a highway into the area. Although it is still an overnight hike to get to the really good stuff. Much better than the previous five-day hike and then a return trip.

This doesn't even come close to doing the location justice. In order to truly see it, you have to hike to the coast and then up the gorge. There is one spot where cliffs tower into the sky, but the passage is only about ten feet wide. It has been named the eye of the needle and is a UNESCO world heritage site. I had the pleasure of meeting one of the men that explored and named many of the locations in this remote place 30 years ago on my trip today. I plan on making the trip next summer, now that it is more accessible.

It is impossible to make out in this small image, but there is a man standing in a clearing on the opposite side of the valley. This view was hard to process in person. A photo falls very short of the mark.
