My Lady Bug C&C

I can’t speak to tones, colors, or exposure because I am on a crappy work PC and I am new to photography but compositionally I see a few things…

In the first one the ladybug is facing away from you and is kind of small in the frame, my eyes aren’t drawn to it.

The second shot is really nice but typically you don’t want to put the horizon dead center, you want either 1/3 sky or 2/3 sky depending on the intended subject. I would have made it 1/3 sky and 2/3 field. A more downward angle may have been better. It is still a nice shot though.

You're totally right about the sky in that second pic. I need to crop about half of it away. Thanks!

EDIT: I forgot to say that you're right about the lady bug being small, but I've never tried macro before and I'm not sure how much closer I can get with this lens and still have it be in focus. I'll play with it some more. I'll pull up the original with the EXIF data to see what focal length I was using. [looking....loooking....loooooking]

Okay, I was at 110mm, so I had 90mm more to work with. But I wonder if I zoomed in that much, I might have missed out on the yellows, but then recomposing would have solved that.

Thanks for the tips!
