What's new

My Last Downy for a while.

Need something more exciting, like a owl or eagle.I have to take a drive up towards Coastalconn.

Idk man, woodpeckers are a tough bird to capture since they don't sit still very long. You caught a fantastic pose!

Sharon, I think your right it does look like hairy and not a downy. They seem to take turns landing on the tree i got them mixed up. Good Catch.

I thought the only way to tell the difference was the under side of the tail feathers and the size ?

Bill and Coastal both in that direction yea we all should me up weather permitted. I know coastalconn invited me before then he had to work that day. Maybe I could learn some tricks from you great photographers BillM, Coastal and Sm4Him but It's to bad Sharon your so far away since I am a big fan of your work. Thanks for the comments!

I'm in dire need of a vacation so I'm taking the week of March 10th off, I plan to see a whole bunch of birds that week

Here is a video someone took of the area I go looking for birds, anyone is welcome to join me if they are every in the area. There are 3 Osprey nests but only one has been active. But there is over 1600 acres of interesting things to photograph.

And a picture from the same spot where that kayak in the video leaves from.

Best way to tell the difference between the two is actually the beak. Downys have a very short bill. The bill on a Hairy is much longer, usually nearly as long as its head.

Aww, thank you! But if you had the chance to go out and learn something with me, or with Kris...anyone in the right mind would pick Kris!! I would LOVE to have that chance, just to meet ALL of you sometime, even if we didn't get to go out and shoot. But yeah, Connecticut is a bit of a drive...
