My niece...C&C please

I had a look at your settings...

On the first set....

Pic 1

1/60th of a second is your shutter speed... way way way too slow for kids.

pic 2 & 3

1/80th still way too slow

pic 4, 5,6 & 7

1/125th still too slow for a kid

In the 2nd set they are all 1/100th of a second.

TOO slow for a kid.. bring that shutter speed up to 1/200th

Also are you sharpening for web?

I did a quick sharpen for web

and can I ask why or how you are choosing your settings? What mode are you shooting in?

ababysean brought up good points regarding shutter speed. The speeds you shot these at would make keeping sharpness difficult. Are you familiar with choosing your ISO to get your shutter speed faster? His/her question is a good one regarding what mode were you using for these, aperture priority, shutter priority, or a 'program' mode?

I tend to like either full manual mode or aperture priority, using ISO to get the shutter speed range I need for the situation.

I totaly feel ya.. I find that I struggle more with portrait photography than I do with landscapes, ive also got a niece and she is very photogenic but its tough. I think getting that perfect picture as a noob takes time! and lots of trial and error and adjusting your camera settings. Hopefully I will get faster at the technical mastery but most kids get bored of me adjusting my settings and they are like "take another picture hayley" "look at me" and by the time ive got the right setting ive missed the great shot! lol. But your neice looks so cute and she is clearly loving being her aunties model! Ive done a couple of photo shoots with a 1 year old and that was also very tough, he was contantly moving around! You can see that you are improving though, in the second shoot, number 3 has a nice blur in the background making the model stand out and it has a more proffesional feel than the first photo shoot, imo its the best of the bunch, but hey im pretty new too so im maybe not as educated as some others on this forum! Keep shooting, your doing a great job :)
