My first lens purchase ever (not counting my kit lens)!

I figured, the Nikon 50mm f/1.8 AF won't autofocus on my D40, so I might as well get a lens that won't autofocus OR meter

50mm f/1.4 pre-AI mount

Congrat for that nice looking. I assume you already well versed in metering. How big is that lens anyway, I mean the weight.

One of the nice things about the D40 is that you can use these pre AI lenses with out damaging your camera.

If you get another Nikon that can use the regular screwmount lenses you can -or can have this one milled to work on the new camera.
