I just got this camera in a lot of used film cameras I got from a friend of mine and this camera I was stoked about. I've always wanted a Nikkormat, I think they are beautiful cameras and built like a TANK. I have always loved the design of these cameras and when my mind goes to "vintage 35mm film cameras" the Nikkormats are what pop into my head first.
This camera has an inoperable meter, but its a fully mechanical camera and with apps, and sunny 16 and even these new mini electronic meters you can plop onto the cold shoe...it's not a big deal.
I was surprised to see that someone replaced the seals in with material that doesn't deteriorate. I don't know if the seals under the top cover have been replaced. It looks like someone has been inside of it from the markings on the screws but I'm going to shoot it as is and see how the film looks, if there's leaks then I'll make the effort to take it apart and give it new seals. But my gut saying it's gonna be fine. Aren't light leaks trendy these days anyways??
Everything fully functions, I even tested the flash ports and they work fine. I gave it a good cleaning and shined up the fake leatherette. The two lenses that were included are the Nikon Nippon Kogaku 35mm 2.8 and 50 f/2 and they are in pristine condition, no oil on aperture blades, no separation of the elements, no scratches, barely any wear on the paint and hardly any internal dust! Just beautiful pieces of glass.
I really LOVE the sound of the film advance and the shutter. Its super satisfying.
Anyways, I took some pictures of the camera! I'll be sure to update this when I get photos back from it at some point.
I original got these cameras to sell, but I might be in love with this camera so I don't think I can let it go.
