What's new

My photos are NOT OK to edit.

It is a personal choice, anyone who gets mad or worked up, let alone feels strongly about this is foolish as best...

I joined TPF to learn more about photography, so take my pictures....edit them....make them better.....then tell me how you did it!! :D

They way I see it and I am only speaking for myself.. Anyone that wants to edit mine.. have at it. But please tell me or show me how you did it. You could only make my pictures better.

I just noticed I don't have either.

Maybe the defaults changed...

At first, the default was "NOT OK to Edit", maybe now the default is *nothing*...

Thanks for the ad hominem attack. That shows a great deal of class.

See, this reason I simply don't understand, because when you post a picture, whether you allow editing or not, you are leaving the photo open to play with. The only thing the allows edit/does not allow edit thing does is prevent people from re-posting something of yours they may have edited.
It's rather simple... out of sight out of mind. If I don't see it, I can pretend it never happened. :D

EXACTLY.

As long as I don't see it, I don't care.

It's when I DO see it that it's a problem though. Not every time, and not with everyone, but often enough that I feel "NOT OK" is the best option.

Well, I can see how the other side feels about it now.
I can respect that.

I agree with whomever suggested the "Please ASK" option.

I've actually wondered this myself, Bitter. The 'DO NOT' tag doesn't actually keep people from downloading and editing photos, it just prevents them from re-posting edits. I've downloaded photos numerous times on people who say do not, just to edit and see what I come up with. It's a shame in those instances I can't repost the edited image to help them understand what I might be talking about.

For me, it's far easier for me to understand someone's critique if they can show me.

Sorry, but to me that is ground for being dismissed from the board. I, however, don't make those decisions. It's bold faced disregard for the fact that someone has already made is clear they don't want to playing with their images. The tag doesn't say "My photo ARE NOT ok to edit, and then repost", it say they are not ok to edit, period. It doesn't matter if you never repost, you're going again the wish of a board user and the rules of the board. And, without the consent of the creator, which is what the ok to edit tag gives, you are essentially stealing someones images. Which while it's commonplace on the web, I would expect differently from a community of 'photographers'.

Yeah, me too.

If I ask you, or if you ask me, I will most likely give you everything up to and including the RAW. All I ask is that you ask.

In a way, I agree. In another, you just have to accept that anyone can download your pictures and do *whatever* to them after that. If you're posting it online, you have no control over what happens after you hit the submit button. ...That's just the way it is.

I can get behind this point of view. I still have an issue of my image living on someone else's Flickr account or Photobucket account or wherever. It's living on their account giving the impression that it is their image.

Good point.
I never post edits I have done on flickr, only photobucket.
While I want to delete them after a while, you never know who might find that thread, and info useful. I always hate coming across dead images, and thus incomplete information.

What to do, what to do....

I think, maybe you do things the same way I do. Flickr=Public. Photobucket=Private.

If I ever post someone else's picture (usually just a screenshot with a few notes on it), it gets hosted on a private photobucket account. It will never be seen outside of the thread I've posted it in (usually, I even delete it from my computer after uploading).

Well I just see it as our right to decided. If you dont like it then tuff. With all the talk of photographers rights it seems some dont see us as having the righ to not want ours edited. Sounds hypocritical to me.
