I decided that for Christmas this upcoming year I'm going to put together a calendar comprising different shots from throughout the year. I know I'll have to fudge it a little in December in order to get it out in time, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

I decided I would leave it up to the good people of TPF to decide which pictures from my 52 week project should be included in the calendar for the given month. Which one of these would you most want for January if it were to be your calendar?

Number 2 for sure, that is a beautiful photo.

I like #2.

Not sure what the layout of the calendar is going to look like, but you may want to keep them all either portrait or landscape. Mixing it up every month might make printing it difficult. Some months will have a lot of empty space around the picture if they're not all the same...

The first three are all very nice images, but IMO, #2 is the only caldendar-worthy image simply because images shot/cropped in vertical orientation are generally not suitable for calendars.

Well that shows how much I know about calendars, I hadn't even thought about the picture orientation being an issue lol. And looking through my weekly pictures from February, only one of them is shot in landscape. I guess this one will have to do, although it's definately not my favorite from the month:

this was my question...
although you could do the shot and the calendar area on one page...but then youd have to crop some of your landscape ones...could be a good exercise in design :D

I'd go with #1 or #2 (and of the two I prefer #1). Picture 3 is actually my favorite of the bunch, with #1 a close second, but nothing about it really says "winter" (other than the fact that you'll remember when you took it).

I agree that most calendars are set up for landscape orientation but I expect there are non-standard layouts out there which use portrait orientation. I don't know that you'll be able to pull off mixing orientations though. Perhaps instead of picking one picture per month at this point you select one in landscape and one in portrait, and when you get closer to the end of the year you can decide from those which orientation/layout you want to pursue...

I also like 1 and 2 and would go with #1.

Also the idea of making a calendar is awesome, I will give it a shot also although my shots kinda suck :(.
