I know it's a little dark but I prefer it to be this way. I just enjoy seeing him in this light.

I like low key images. But even a low key photo needs shadows and contrast. This one is flat, and that is the main problem here. Just google "low key images" and you will see what I mean.

Lots of problems here.

I would convert it to B&W, for starters. Work what tones you have. Since it's already soft, I'd soften it up even more. It's still too tightly cropped, but with some work it may be salvageable for personal use.

A little dark? Nah mate, it's waaay underexposed and the crop is too tight, even for me and I like close crops. You need a bit more on camera left but Jenko's edit is pretty good and probably the best you will get out of this image. It's entirely possible your monitor is too light. Cute kid though, I like the angle and the look. Correct exposure, a bit faster on the shutter speed, a bit more DOF a little more room and you'd have a winner I think.

Much better, still a little soft (can't fix that) but worth working with. Consider cropping a little at the back to get rid of the yellow blob and cloning out the orange thing bottom left... and maybe trying to emulate Jenko's B&W conversion, too, if you want to play with it. Love the expression on his face.
