Laynea, It's a good photo and to me the technical is there with good lighting, exposure, crop, pp, etc. The nickpicking thing that I have is that your sisters pose is not flattering. Sitting crosslegged with a dress and her knees showing, my eyes are drawn there due to the contrast in color. Beautiful family.

Yes, I agree that it isn't flattering. She is pregnant so we were trying to show off her belly. It was my first time shooting someone who is pregnant. Learning experience for sure!! Haha. I definitely agree with you though. I wish I had posed her differently. Thank you for your input!

Don't sweat it, it's still a really good photo and they will love it and you should be proud of it. I had a suspicion that she was but I'm smart enough not to go there. Congrats on your soon to be niece or nephew. (BTW, I'm not sure I would have done as well posing them.)

Thank you. Haha! You sound like you've learned from experience. I feel like posing is my weakest area. I'm working on it though!

It just takes one "I'm not pregnant" for me to figure out to stay away from that one. I'm right there with you. Charlie and Derrel and Robin worked me through OCF lighting a couple of weeks ago.

When you pose a group, have them positioned so close together that they almost feel awkward. And build up, not out.

Nice photo regardless. This really shows some improvement.

It's not going to win the Pulitzer prize for photography, but then nor are any of mine.

Posing mum aside, you got all four with nice smiles, the lighting is great and I LOVE the way the sun is on the little girl's hair on the right. Mum's beautiful smile makes up for the pose (posing a pregnant woman is never easy) and if THEY don't love it they need their heads examined. I like the choice of setting, too. :thumbup:

Good looking capture, pretty much everything looks nice...I especially like how you used the light on their hair for separation. The color of the light on them (I presume OCF, which is nicely done BTW) isn't quite matching the ambient color for me though, it's just a tad too white.

Thank you! Can you expand on the,"build up, not out part"? I'm really interested in what you mean. It sounds like a terrific piece of advice, but I just don't quite understand.
