What's new

My very first wedding C&C welcome

#2 would be my only possible keeper.

the others seem underexposed and lack over all content. Those close up shot only work if the viewer is able to easily identify what it is they are looking at.

Keep at it.

Too many under exposed. Hope you shot in RAW as they are certainly fixable with a tweak of the exposure slider.

Thanks miss for taking the time to look through them all and comment on them! :blushing:

I thought about doing color select in #24...a lot of people dont really like it but i figure i could play with it and let them see it.
I agree with you no the cliche pics...those were one of the groomsmens idea. I had no clue what i could do to make them any better so i just left them alone lol.
Im still editing and adding to flickr. Ive had several i thought were trash until i started playing around with them.

Im not sure which close ups your talking about, as everyone else who has looked at them has been able to tell exactly what they were looking at. Im a little confused by your comment.

I did shoot in RAW. Lightroom works wonders!

There are a few more here http://www.flickr.com/photos/21143231@N05/'
I havent put all of them on the net yet because there were a lot of children (in the more formal shots) and i do not have permission from their parents. As soon as i do, ill post more. There are also some that the bride and groom have not seen yet, so i didnt want to upload them until they have seen all of them.
Flash was used in every picture. I had very very limited space. The room where the girls were dressing had 12 sets of bunk beds in it with just a small area down the middle for walking and dressing. No blank walls at all! It was also raining almost all day. The church was also very small with no balcony or anywhere to get up high or far back enough to get full shots of the guest. Allso one of their family was doing a video so i tried not to be walking around in it the entire time. The outside had only one place where the bride wouldnt get rained on or wet grass all over her dress and that was on the church steps. So my biggest issue was not having anywhere i thought was "best" for formal shots. Everywhere i looked there were plugins, wires, books, peoples feet, heads, rain, construction buildings, etc. That was definately a challenge. The veil is hanging on the end of one of the bunkbeds.
It was definately a learning experience. I noticed a lot of things about the pics that i would try to change if i could re-do them..Of course i cant, but thats what learning is about.

You need to work on your use of flash there are lots of nasty shadows

Yeah the shadows are horrible. I tried different angles hoping to avoid some of the shadows in at least some of them. Ive got a lot to learn and work on before i attempt something like this again!

Were you using your pop up ? if so it's hard not to have shadows

Yep. unfortunately thats all i have at the moment. I was warned it wouldnt work and i warned the bride and groom but they still insisted i give it a go.
They came over last night and viewed all the pics. They are actually really happy with them...of course they dont have anything else to compare them to though.

the ones displayed here in the forum look a little underexposed or too dark.. but other than that they look good

no shots of the bride and groom, ceremony, etc......

All are underexposed, flat(lack of contrast, try PP).

1. As said, shakers and bad angle, need to see the flowers.

2. Too much empty space in bottom, would have been better with more of her dress in the shot, or her upper half entirely; this makes it look like a crop.

3. This one's not so bad, but her hair and shoulder is distracting, taken from more to the left would have only included her hands and focused more on the dress.

4. Cliche but good shot, I have taken it myself a few times. But composition is lacking, need to move to the left and closer, we're seeing too much of the bench and too little of the bows. Noise is killing me on the bokeh, would have helped to overexpose a little which improves the noise.

5. Not doing much for me, maybe it's the flat angle/composition.

I also highly suggest you get some better glass, specifically faster ones. Get something like a 35mm f/2 and a 85 f1.8, trust me. Personally I would never shoot a wedding with a kit lens.

no shots of the bride and groom, ceremony, etc......

Been posted 3 times already.

Totally agree i need faster glass.
The close ups inside the church turned out much much better than the others.
Lighting is something im still working on. The lights in the church and dressing area had an orange glow.
Any suggestions for that using 55-200 lens and pop up flash?
I tried different settings but turned out too dark or tinted various colors.

I added more (including bride and groom) to flickr if anyone wants to take a look Flickr: reachingforthestars07's Photostream however im afraid they are no better than the first set....

I totally wasnt ready for this challenge...thankfully i have very understanding friends.

NEVER use pop up flash, especially indoors in a dark area. Get a hot shoe flash and bounce it of a wall or ceiling. If that's not an option put an omni diffuser on it and point it upwards and a little forward. Any of these two options will be worlds better than straight on flash, especially pop up flash. A better option is of course off camera flash, but you gotta start somewhere.
