I think
the brightness and realness of these shots seem really at odds with the concept.
those black shoes are a totally jarring note.
this woman has the wrong body type to pull off this kind of shot and they come across as awkward.

BTL.. Very nicely shot! I do agree with Lew somewhat that these are too "Real" for the concept... they need to have a little post (maybe soften a little, and maybe a light tint?) treatment to give them that "1940's pinup" feel. I don't really have a problem with the body type though. I don't really mind the shoes.

Lighting, timing, model, these are gorgeous! And I just clicked on them... and went to Flickr, with a Black Background.. it really helps the shot... isolates it! You might want a border on them.

A feeble attempt at trying for a pin-up look (at work, so didn't spend much time on it!lol!) Hope you don't mind!


did a .5 pixel Gaussian blur, increased yellow and red slightly over all, upped the sat, did a really light yellow fill on background.. and border. What do you think?

Thanks. It looks pretty good. The processing I am doing is an attempt at pin up...I think I acheived it in some shots, but maybe not in these. Thanks for the edit.

I like these a lot, great concept and good execution. I especially like how game she is.

I would:

- watch the poses more carefully relative to camera position. These are not poses that are kind to ANYONE's belly, so a carefully selected camera angle can work wonders. Get that tummy fold behind something!
- I love the shoes, and they work well with the fabric, it's the lingerie that's wrong. Black lingerie, possibly with some bright trim (although that's a bit cliched). SOME sort of small bright pop, I think, though, perhaps in a simple prop.
- watch the hot spots a little more carefully. #3 has her thigh rather hot (an easy fix in post, since you're going for pinup and needn't preserve skin texture all that carefully).


She's awesome. Not just good looking, but great presence and a great willingness to try stuff out. You're not so bad yourself

The floating voile has an impression of airiness and she does not have an 'airiness' kind of body.
No value judgement about her implied just what seems to me a mix of styles.
I think long, slender, etc.

I think I see what Lew means. I have shots of much larger ladies with flowing veils that seem to work. I think it works best for the "larger" ladies when there's some power in the motion when the veil is used. The floating veil shots I have like these work better with the elfin type of body... For example, shot #2 works best of the lot in my opinion because she seems to be giving it some wellie!

On a side note, you get much better flow of material with real silk veils, voile is OK but lacks that extra something. If you can see a future use for something like this you can get them online from belly dance shops for around £20 to £25.

Love your recent work, by the way. Katarina is gorgeous and it must be marvelous to have a model like her who's willing to dress up and play along with the different styles of shoot. :thumbup:

Thanks. Yes, I see what you mean. Although she's not a larger lady, she is not super skinny either and that's what Lew was getting at. I can get that.

She is a great model, and photographer. She is happy to "play" and just see what develops.
