Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
I don't like to do it. I like to think that my pictures, or anyones, should speak for itself. No title, no description. Is this smart?

I take a lot of pictures (my standards, not yours) and naming them all would be a daunting task. Opinions?

I name all of my fine art images.

I name them as a means of influencing to some degree how others interprit my work. (shorthand for marketing ;))

You can also just delete the name.

Sounds like you already have your mind made up.

Personally, I don't name mine either, but I have to assign *some* name to them in order to save them, so I date them.

For example, 11231101 was the first picture I scanned today, 11231102 was the second, etc. That's what works for me. (MMDDYY##)

I've been thinking about changing my naming/dating format though. I don't like it being sorted by the month... I'm thinking 2011112301 (YYYYMMDD##) might be better than 11231101. I may start doing that soon... That will keep them in the most chronologically accurate order, anyway.

I don't sell much, but I would probably 'name' work that was for sale. Nobody wants to buy an "11231106". IMO, no name at all would probable be better that my current naming system - as far as selling goes.

Oh, I'm sorry, guys. I was talking pictures I have on Flickr or somewhere else online.

Because I was told if you don't name any of your images then it doesn't look good on you. Like you don't care. Someone told me that and I wanted to know what other people think.

Some of my pictures on Flickr are named by their filename because I didn't bother to correct it. I only use Flickr to post pictures here so I dont care but I don't see how it would look bad on you. If you don't think they need a name then they don't.

Flickr wise, I name my pictures relevant to what they are and sometimes will put the crop size. Ex: Sunrise9x7
I don't have flickr for others. I have flickr for myself.

I have working titles but when showing the work I never put that title on the mat. Have named them when the gallery wanted a title, which is usual; however, this goes on the info tag not the photo.

On my website no titles, however, it is something to think about as the site is being updated and changed.

I name mine and include the camera shot number to make it easier for me to quickly find them when clients and I are talking about them via email or phone, like "Broadway_Bridge_3587".
