I was finally able to go out to try to learn my camera some. I ended up going to the aquarium in Baltimore since it was raining so bad. Anyways below are some pics from the trip. Let me know what you think. They are the best I was able to do with the crowds and limited light (I didn't want to use the flash as I was concerned about the reflections). Still learning and would appreciate any input so I can find out what areas I need to work on the most. Thanks in advance!

Very nice. Maybe using a circular polarizer will help you with aquarium photos.

Thanks. I was thinking of using one but unfortunately did not have one in the size for the lens I was using. I have a few filters (CP and an ND filter) for my other lenses but haven't yet tried using them. I've been taking photos for years but am finally working on learning how to really use my camera instead of having it on "auto" all the time.

In theory it would, but in actuality there really is not enough light (CPL's cut light by two to three stops, on average). In my experience, I haven't been to an aquarium where you could shoot with a CPL.

Best,
Jake

I can vouch for this, at least in the aquarium at our zoo, a CPL just cuts too much light to really be of any use, and that's using a good quality CPL on a F/1.8 lens. Best results I've found you need to just find a spot where your not getting a ton of reflections and then post process what you can out. It's time consuming but it's workable.

Thanks! I have a few more of him on my Flickr page.

I really wish I had been able to get a better angle on the bat but he was hanging about 200 ft or so above my head. I'm still going through pics from the day and will probably be going back next weekend with my kids.
