The disadvantages:
- You need a tripod.
- Does not work for moving objects which span across where the gradient effect starts and ends.
- Some people have a fear of photoshop.

Wind was always trouble for me here. grass, trees, and everything is moving, often at the borderline between the dark and bright part of the scene.
Hence this approach left me totally frustrated and i updated my gradient filter collection recently.

but it probably really depends where and what you shoot.

awesome thanks for all your help guys that clears a few things up for me haha but the only problem for me with doing the whole layer mask in photoshop is that i take alot of shots of water like streams beaches and waterfalls so i definaltely need filters
