Need advice on zoom lense

I am very new at this. I just got my first DSLR camera just this week. My camera is a Canon XT. I have a Canon 50mm 1.8 lens. I am looking for a basic zoom lens that will go wider than mine but also zoom further. My price range is hopefully less than $200. I don't care if it is new or used. I have tried my brothers canon 17mm-85mm I.S. I really like it but I do not need image stabilizer and it is a little expensive for me. Does anyone have any suggestions on a lens for me?

i know you could get a sigma 55-200mm for about $100.

or something like a sigma 28-105mm
for about $150.

The lens that usually comes with that camera is the 18-55mm. It's a cheaply made lens, but you could probably find them for close to $50 on E-bay.

Tokina 19-35mm can be found for very little.... on the used market.

I have not looked too long but I have found a canon lens that is 28-90mm f/4-5.6. It is used and the person selling it asked $80. Does anyone have thoughts about this lens? Is it worth it? Pro's or Con's for it?
