Hi,

I have a Sony Nex 5N and I am planning to buy some Macro lens for that. I am a beginner and purchased some courses on Macro Photography(yet to read).

I do not see many choices when it comes to Macro lens for Sony Nex 5N other than this by Sony
30mm f/3.5 Macro Lens for α NEX Cameras| SEL30M35 | Sony USA

I saw some Vivitar lens on ebay. Could anyone let me know how good they are. Here is the link to the product
All in Fisheye Lens Kit for Sony NEX F3 NEX 7 NEX 5N NEX 5 NEX 3 NEX C3 | eBay

Please let me know.

Thanks

I don't know the sony market well, but if you want to do macro photography I would not get the 30mm lens. The working distance is stated as being under an inch for that lens on its site and that is an extremely tiny distance. Generally speaking even 50mm macro lenses are difficult to use at full magnification and going any shorter the problems just get more and more extreme.

With the 30mm you'll be heavily shadowing your subject with the camera and lens with very little space to work light in (eg from flash) to illuminate the subject. The lens is going to be good for close up work, but for full magnification too much of a trial to use.

I would suggest looking for a 100mm macro lens or one of a similar focal length; these will give you more working distance and thus more space between subject and lens to work with.
