Need Help with a Shot

I'm trying to shoot a band photo and I need some help establishing the shot I'm trying to make. What I'm looking for is the band lined up in a totally black area, so all you can see is the band and no background, with one bright stage-style light behind them, centered and above them. Any help making that happen?

Not quite sure where you want the orange light to be, but it sounds like an easy shot. Increase the output of your strobes so that they over power the ambient and have lots of space between the band and the background, and the gel another light to the right colour and aim it where you want. Without knowing how many in the band, this is sounding like a three light shot to me.

If you don't have the lighting equipment you need just take one shot with just the light and another of the band without the light and merge them in post production (Lightroom or Photoshop or whichever)
That way you can experiment with different colors and positions for the light.
