Need some advice please

I want to purchase a [TABLE="class: my_itl-iT"]

[TD="class: dt-alignLft my_itl-alT"]Nikon Nikkor AF-S 55-200mm VR DX F/4.5-5.6 IF-ED

Could you tell me if this is compatible with a Nikon D3100?

How would I be able to tell for the future?

Hi Tracy. Yes D3100 is compatible with AF-S lenses.

That link, or you could refer to your D3100 user's manual (page 167).

D3100 don't have motor on body, so if you want autofocus you need AF-S lens, its compatible
