Need some help please with a dilemma i'm having about lenses and a trip

I would buy a 70-200 and just take it all with me. I have nice quality lenses because I like nice quality pictures. Dont cheap out on your vacation.

- its costs here 2650$, no chance I'm taking that kind of pro lens on my trip, man i'll be afraid that something will happen to it all the time, and as i said before I don't have the money. and on top of that, I don't justify buying a pro lens if i don't use it everyday, and as much as i like photography, i'm not making a living out of it yet, so it will be money that will go to waste just sitting there.

Do a lot of photo-enthusiasts prefer packing light over quality photos? I just feel as though I'd want to take ALL of my photo gear with me to insure that I get the most out of my trip. Maybe I'm just unique.

MAYBE if i'm really lucky and manage with a mircle to afford it, i can save a bit more and buy the Nikon 24-70 2.8G. practiclly i think i'll use that more then the 70-200.

Tyler, it does make a difference on your trip, how mobile you are...try to take with you a 2 huge bags of luggage instead of a compact small one...you make some compromises but you enjoy your trip more because its a less of an hassle, though i'm trying to find balance in compromising, because after all, i can go with a super compact camera which fits my pocket, but then i'll won't really be satisfied with the photos i will have from the trip...see my point?.

No, sorry. I don't see your point. But that's okay. I can consolidate two full frame bodies, 3-4 lenses, and two flashes into one bag. So I'd definitely bring it all. But I respect that people have different needs and wants, so packing light is more important to you.

Dude, I'm with you.

The main reason I got into photography was from traveling. I would spend extra money on lenses and take great pictures as momentos as opposed to wasting money on tourist junk. I fit all my gear in one bag. DSLR motor, 70-200mm, 18-70mm, 28mm prime, 50mm prime, a flash and all my accessories in one regular back pack. I can fit my minolta slr in their too if needed.
