Need to buy a DSLR for College.

Hello everyone,

The title basically sums it all up, but here's some additional information:
For my fall semester I'm taking Computer Imaging and will need a decent DSLR to use.
My film SLR was a cannon, so I want to get a Cannon DSLR so I can use the lense from my SLR on it.
I have a budget of $500-$1,000. The thing is I don't know much about camera's yet. This photo
class is the first digital class I'm taking. Therefore, I don't really know what I should be looking for in a camera.
All I really know is I want something with high megapixels so I can make large prints and something I can use
record in HD because I will do some video here and there too.
Are there any flashes or lenses I may not be able to use?
I have a lens from my EOS SLR and a Cannon Speedlite 430EX II flash.
Again, I really don't know much, so any information would be EXTREMELY helpful.
I want to get years of use out this camera too.
I've always found people on this forum to be incredibly helpful for the most part, so I
figured here would be a good place to get some help!

Research the T2i and T3i do not confuse them with T2 and T3... fewer pixels.

The t3i or t4i would probably be your best bet. They both have high megapixels and shoot video. I own the t3i and just love it!

I would go for a refurbished 60D.

Next time you fire the flash, make sure you announce it "Fire in the hole!"
