Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
I have one of the old Nikon D-70's that are now famous for the card errors. I have learned to live with the problem and with some work can usually get a card to work and save each picture I take properly.

Then this happened. Taking pictures and each shot showed on the screen OK, but when I went to transfer the pictures to my computer, this is what I get.

$Card Directory.webp

Running recovery software does nothing. I can't rename the now folder looking files.

Anyone have any ideas if these are just gone forever or if there is a recovery method I could use?

Thanks!!

I see a screen shot of a bunch of file directories.

What's the problem it's supposed to show?

That's the problem - I didn't create those directories. Each of them is supposed to be a .JPG picture.

When I click on a directory to try and open it, a message pops up and says it isn't available.

Try right-clicking on one, and choosing "Open With....."

Right clicking does not give an OPEN WITH option.

A look at properties shows it has zero bytes size.

I had this problem and solved it by replacing the card in the camera several times until I actually could take and see a picture on the lcd.
Then I never took the card out again, just downloaded using a usb cord.

The problem probably isn't the card but that the pins are being pushed back through the internal socket.

Can you view the images in the camera?

If so, leave the card in the camera and plug the camera into the computer with a USB cord.

Yes - that is what I would do many times, but this last time I didn't learn of the problem until after it had happened.

No - can't see the images in the preview mode on the camera. Just a message saying no images are present.

I think I'm just never going to see them again. They showed on the screen after each one was taken, so that is the confusing thing. The card was formatted, by the camera, before I started taking the pictures.

I think the camera did something to them at some point in the process.

Have you ever checked the conditions of the memory card connector pins at the bottom of the card slot in the camera, or checked to see if there is any debris down among the pins??

Are you suing a memory card with more capacity than Nikon recommends using in a D70?

I have been using this same card for a number of years. The problem with it seating in the pin slot has been known for years.

I can contend with all that and have learned to do so over the years. My problem now is will I ever see these pictures again?

If they didn't get written correctly to the card, which they seem not to have, they are gone.
All of the 1s and 0s have either evaporated or dripped out though a small tear in the space-time continuum. (my guess)

The D70 is famous for card errors? News to me.

I guess I'm just lucky. I'm 10 years without an error, and I still use the thing.

edit to add - using the same CF card the entire time, too.

The D70 "CHA Error" was Nikon's fiasco du jour a while ago... kind of like today's D600 sensor oil fiasco LOL.

And yes, you are lucky.

An updat on this problem. I found a solution. I tried a number of different Data Recovery Programs, but none worked until I found this ONE. It found and recovered about 98% of the lost pictures that looked like they had all been converted to folders. I recommend this one highly. Giveawayoftheday had it for free a few days ago.
