New at macro

well,, macro is all about sharpness and depth of field controll,, both suffer in this image,, what lens did you shoot this with ?? Macro is one of my passions, keep trying, you will see things that most people never take the time to look at if you stay with it, it a tough but rewarding field

Reversed mounted my kit lens (18-105) @ 18mm. I did no cropping. The DOF is so shallow I had to decide if I wanted the legs to be sharp or the body. I used my sb600 off the camera directly on top of the subject.

That is the problem of using a reverse ring.
One of my friend suggested this: while you take out lens from the camera select a desired aperture and take it out pressing the DOF button, keeping the camera switched on; the lens will retain the selected aperture giving better DOF. If you take it out in switched off status, you get the widest aperture with lowest DOF by default; anybody please correct me if i am wrongly informed

Regards :D

I believe that is only with canons. I couldn't get it to work with a Nikon due to the aperture being mechanical. I used my finger to manually adjust the aperture.

Yes, with the EOS line, the only way (that I know of) to stop the lens down without it being mounted is to remove it with the DOF preview button held down. Just re-mount the lens to reset the aperture blades.
