Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
Its been a while since I have been on this forum. I was on here all the time for critique as a beginner but I have been so busy I just haven't found the time. I now run a successful little photography business. I mainly photograph children and new born babies. I love it, I am trying to get a few weddings under my belt also but it is so highly competitive. I am still learning all the time. I just wanted to share some images from a recent new born shoot. My set up is very simple, I use continuous lighting or natural lighting for newborn photography. I just find it softer than flash. I have a nikon d800 and use a 50mm 1.8 lens for these photo shoots, shooting between f2.8 and f4. Its taken years to master baby posing! I am still learning along the way but I am now at a stage where I feel more confident in what I am doing. Comments and critique always welcome. Thanks for looking :)

I like all of these but #4 is amazing. I like that you didn't place the child in any weird uncomfortable positions.

Thank you for your feedback. Yes I definitely prefer more natural posing, I think that curled poses are fine as long as baby is comfortable. I don't bother with composite images (hands holding up head, that kind of thing)

These are very nice.

I do not like the unnatural posing either.

Nicely done

Very nice posing. I think your white balance is off... the baby looks yellow/green ish.... now I am saying that as I view these on my work PC which is not calibrated so take that with a grain of salt.

The yellows do have excessive green. That can be corrected with Selective Color in PS, or the HSL tool in Lightroom.

I think it's probably my post processing that has done that, I just don't see it. Maybe I'm a bit colour blind as I have had feedback on my skin tones before. Or maybe it's my screen?

Something to work on, thanks!

The photos are great but I thought the watermark was a bit large and distracting.

That's a fair comment. I only watermark images that I put on Facebook. My website is free from watermarks. It's really so that when clients tag my images and share them they are noticeable as mine.

I suppose it could be smaller in some images.

Your watermark is particularly distracting in 1,3,4. Those images look more like you are trying to advertise your business instead of showing off your photography. (I'm not really sure if that is a good/bad thing given the way you say you use it, as long as you are aware of it).

There is nothing wrong with your watermark. You are showing off your photos and your brand and there is nothing wrong with that.

I just opened one image and clicked Image>Adjust>AUTO-COLOR in an old version of PS... $DSC_1913-AUTO-color.jpg

You can see the immediate improvement of the skin tones, which look like some Magenta was added. Adding magenta cancels out green. The white trim still has some green tinge to it, but I just wanted you to see the skin tones side-by-side.

What type of light source was used? I see also that the mesh-y type covering over the baby now appears to be within the blue family, where before it appeared sea-foam green-ish.

Here is the original:$DSC_1913.jpg

I can now see the difference compared with before. I used continuous lighting on the shoot. I have 2 large soft boxes with 5000k bulbs. I am a mobile photographer so it usually depends how much natural light is available in clients home as to what I use.

I think I need to be better at seeing this with my naked eye when processing images!

Thanks for the edit and info :)
