traded my Pentax in for a canon T1i. very very happy so far, my question is what would be a good alternate lens to replace the kit lens with? im not a big fan of it overall. any suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks,

any prime lens, preferably fast.

the 50mm f1.4 works well with that camera, especially when shooting video.

+1 on the prime, always a good secondary lens. But it all depends on what your shooting, if your into more landscapes and wildlife i would go for a zoom lens if your into portraits or still life the 50mm will do you great things.

depends on your budget.
The prime is always nice to have (I need to buy one !), but for the other lenses there are so many options in such a broad price range.
So, buget, what do you want to shoot ??

the 50mm is a bit long on the crop sensor. thats just my opinion though. if you wanna go prime id go with the 28mm 1.8 or 35mm f2. you wanna good walk around lens in the same focal length as the kit, id go 17-40L or 17-55 but both are pricey

thanks guys! im looking for a walk around lens to shoot mainly still life stuff. im not looking to get one right now since my funds are tied up a bit but in the near future it'll be a few hundred. ill check into the primes. thanks again!

The f1.8 gives good quality images. The build quality is a little lacking, but what do you expect for under $100?

Pro photogs sometimes use it as a "disposible" lens. Use it under harsh circumstances. If it gets ruined you buy a new one
