Hi all
I just bought the new iMac with 5k display. Beautiful.
My question is does something brand new need to be calibrated right away? If not is there shelf life before it benefits from calibration?
Also, and recs re: hi quality calibration hardware/software for this computer would be appreciated!
Best-

Yes, calibrate immediately.

Yes it needs calibration. I have never had a perfect monitor "out of the box". I've had some that were close... and some that were wildly off. All of them benefit from calibration.

Any computer-display combination needs a new calibration. As already mentioned, you should do with a hardware tool. I had a Spyder4PRO already and calibrated my iMac 5K with it, worked well.

Calibration allows for the ambient light that falls on the display.
How much ambient light and it's color temperature varies from user to user, so to be accurate a display needs to be calibrated from the git go.
The display also needs to be routinely re-calibrated. Pros re-calibrate at least monthly.
