New faster card, same buffer rate?

how much internal buffer in the camera is there?
and how fast is the bus (the streaming speed from the camera's buffer to the SD card port) ?
I'm guessing the bus to the SD card is your bottle neck as it is with most cameras. See the above link I gave.

Ive got no clue honestly... i looked at your link but it doesn't list my card that i just bought nor does the sandisk website carry the card listed in the chart.

In short,

The SD card that you bought is WAY faster than what your camera can support.
It's like buying 100 octane car racing fuel for a honda civic that is optimal with 87 octane.

in other words ...
that link, if you read the entire article until you understand it is fairly basic.
The (a) buffer fills up fast
the (b) card is fast
but everything in between the (a) Buffer and the (b) card is much slower.

or if you look at that chart, the last UHS-II listing is this
CARD . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . READ .. WRITE .... ==> CANON 80D SPEED
Sandisk Extreme Pro 64GB UHS-II 260.5 MB/s 214.8 MB/s ===> 39.98 MB/s

which in post #1 you list "260 mb/s write speed sandisk"
which would be that category of card

I dunno... all i know is that with all the settings the same way i've had them the only thing that seems to make a difference in the overall burst size i can shoot is ISO. ISO 100-400 i get 27 shots which is above what's listed. If i understand correctly, what you say about everything inbetween the card and the buffer, no matter what card i put in, that's the constant that doesn't change, correct? So if i'm getting my 25 shots here as is stated in the specs for a "fast" card, this card is up to par?

I'm exchanging it for a 64gb sandisk extreme pro 95mb/s card

Correct the "bus" or electronic transfer path from the buffer to the card is the bottleneck.
It can only go so fast.
Thus it doesn't matter how fast of card you put it in, it's only going to get data at max of about 75 mb/sec.

Returning your 260 mb/sec card with a 95/90 mb/sec card you should have the same end result speed but with more money in your pocket.

Check to make sure it's a 95 (read) / 90 (write) versus the slower versions like a 90/60.
Since you bought SanDisk make sure you get an Extreme Pro 95 mb/s (not the extreme plus).

Older cameras are unable to support larger capacity cards such as 64gb or even 16gb in some cases. So there is always a compatibility issue for future stuff made that didn't exist when they designed and built the camera.

That's what most people seem to buy as it's compatible and offers the fastest speed and most reliability.
I have 4 x 16GB of those cards myself.

I hope I like it. I got the 32 in the original card but for 25$ less I got twice the space. Do you think this will perform "better"than the card I'm returning in the sense that it's the correct class? My goal here was just to get a card that if need be woops be the fastest the camera could use. I shot with a 2gb cf card for 10 years so space isn't an issue. I doubt I'll ever fill up a 64.

It should be plenty fast.

I never ventured into the UHS-II SD cards as none of my cameras need it.
the newer 4k video cameras like the fast cards. Sony's newest 4k video camera uses a high speed CF card for 4k video, but doesn't support the high speed for the SD card. Go figure.

The Nikon D500 I think just has a gigantic buffer but a normal speed bus.
