I am a beta tester for google maps so it looks a lot like what I have had on my computer and tablet. I do like it though. I like the menu design, which I hadn't seen until I pulled it up on my phone,

EVERYTHING is in the EXACT OPPOSITE of where it used to be. The entire interface is completely mirrored, inverted, reversed and rotated 180°. I honestly think this is an untold-rule when making something 'new and improved'... make it worse than before.

And most of the features of the old maps have -poof-....... vanished. Panoramio photos. My Maps. Weather. How can something be improved if you take away 5 more things than you add?

I swear, if Google made a car that could drive itself, by tomorrow we'd all be taking the bus.

Sounds like most modern software updates - change the whole interface just because (mostly to defend the job of the interface designer) - use the interface change to hide several features you want to remove in a later update - remove several other features - give them several BIG buttons that are really horrible for a couple of functions

I use Titanium Backup on my phone, coz I dislike most updates, I can revert back.

If Google updated, say, the Nikon D800:

The shutter release would be under the user's left ring finger. This is so left-handed people don't feel left out.
A, S and M shooting modes would be deleted. No one ever uses them anyway.
SD and CF card slots would be replaced with 5-¼" floppy drives because you can buy the disks so cheap these days.
The pentaprism and viewfinder would be removed, forcing you to use LiveView all the time.
To overcome battery longevity issues caused by above, image review (chimping) will be limited to 2 seconds.
On-board flash will be added. And not some cheesy pop-up flash. An SB-910 will be permanently attached to the camera.
The grip will be redesigned to attach to the back of the camera, not the bottom.
JPEG only. No NEFs.
Due to the above grip design, the controls and monitor will be relocated to the front and sides of the camera.
Once a lens is installed on the camera, it will become permanently mounted to it and cannot be removed.
Available ISOs will be 100, 200 and 4,000,000.
The sensor will be replaced with a 1.2mp DX-format.

hey....kind of off subject here,but did I give google permission to use my LAA RND3 images when I signed up for Panoramia account?No big deal,and no,I don't read the fine print when it comes to something this inconsequential.Just don't recall signing off anything...........lol

I currently have version 7.7.0 and am showing no pending updates, I don't notice any major changes. If I dig through the menu settings I have some additional special location options but those may have been there before.

If you're on a mobile device, you may not be seeing any changes. This is about maps on a desktop or laptop.

oh my god, I am constantly having to figure out the new iTunes for my mom. Every time they update they move things around and she can't find out how to add her podcasts on to her ipod. I don't think they realize not everyone is a computer scientist.
