Hey guys, Found this forum just cruising around google. Just recently got into photography and made my first DSLR purchase. Decided to go with the Nikon D90 since my parents had a couple of nikkor VR lenses they weren't using. Took some indoor shots the other day since it was raining. What do you guys think?

i like the second one.

i think you should have focused on the bridge in the first one.
and pay attention to the background.
the black background in the second one looks better than the messy comforter and green wall with red crayon on it in the first one.

Hi! Im new around here! Like the shots! The 2nd seems like the better shot to me. The first it hard to figure out what your suppose to focus on. Great job and congrats on the new toy!

for me the background is distracting in the first shot. and the second shot is good, think i would like it more if the sheet/background was more of a contrasting color.

I find the dust being only under the strings and on the pick guard in shot #1 distracting. I'd probably clean that prior to shooting. If the entire thing had an even layer of dust I feel it would work though.

Yea you don't really notice the dust when you play it everyday but it's interesting how you tend to see the imperfections in your instruments when you actually start to take a look at them. Oh and no red crayon on the walls in the first shot, just the strings because I usually wind them up instead of cutting them off, just hadn't gotten around to it yet. I do see what you guys are saying about the backgrounds though. Lots to learn. Thanks again.

"Distracting" is such an overused word on TPF. It's like you have to go and find something distracting, so you distracted yourself from the actual subject.

I don't find the dust or the background distracting. Certainly, after further viewing you could say, the picture would probably be more pleasing with a better background, or if the dust was cleaned off.

But distracting? No.

To each their own my friend. I said distracting because as a guitar player myself the dust immediately became my initial focal point which detracts from the overall photo imo. (at least for me).

Ah, I get it. You didn't even realize the picture was supposed to be of a guitar until you got past looking at all the dust.

Makes sense, being that there's so much dust, and not just a subtle amount of dust underneath the strings.

I prefer the 2nd one.
Good Luck with the new gear.
I am looking into a new camera myself.

I find the dust and backgrounds distracting. I say distracting because they take my attention away from the focal point and the photo as a whole because my eyes tend to go back to those features.
