new lens

So last week I bought the canon 50mm 1.4, my first 'extra' lens, and I tried it out a bit. I turned down all the lights and aimed a reading light at the side of my face. Because I don't have a shutter remote I couldn't use autofocus so I had to measure how far my head would be and focus at that distance. That was kind of a pain in the butt, and that's why it's focussed more at my nose then my eye. This is what i got:

It was shot with a canon 450d, f/1.4, shutter 1/100, iso 400. Any advice would be welcome!

I have the canon 50mm 1.8, and I really like it. It took me a while to get used to not being able to zoom in or out. I wanted the 1.4, but couldn't afford it. Neat picture, very dramatic. Maybe a fill light, or reflector on the one side of your face would look nice

yeah I was lucky that my birthday was last month so my dad gave me 200 euros to buy a new lens, otherwise it would've been too expensive but I'm really glad I got it, it makes beautiful pictures. And the fact that you can't zoom forces you to move around the object and use other perspectives

try using a 10 second delay since you don't have a shutter remote.
