Pretty excited I finally got my Canon 100mm macro. I can finally do close-up work from closer than 5 feet (my long lens's minimum focus distance). And for the first play date, a little time with another of my creative outlets. This close of a view sure lets you see all of the little niggles.

I love my 100mm macro, just dont spend enough time with her...

Congratulations! It's a great lens. I was out at an arboretum yesterday evening with mine. At times I was right up against the closest focusing distance and almost grabbed an extension tube. I can't imagine trying to do this sort of thing with my 70-300.

I like the fly-holding device you have used more than vise jaws. It really is sweet to have a good tele-macro for things like flies, coins, bugs, etc.. I used to tie flies for a few years, back in the day.

Thanks all. I am excited about it. Now I'm waiting for the Dahlias to bloom.

Derrel, it's about the most bodged together light box there is. It is just an electrical clip holding the fly, scrap 2x12, gloss white spray paint, a piece of the diffuser plastic from a fluorescent light fixture, and my broad-spectrum desk lamp.
