I have more but this should be fine, even if its just criticism then i'm happy to have it :) Thanks. (I used very old lenses with every photo using manual focus apart from picture 1)

Thank you for your quick responses both of you, the wire ghosting was hard to get rid of. As for the others what you don't like about them i'm happy to hear even if you think generally they are boring or something :)

Okay, some more CC
1:really cool, nice texture again. But I'm having trouble interpreting what it is
2:Really nice colours, quite well done
3:Again, nice, perhapse moving the angle a bit lower could help
4:Well composed, a good cliche shot of the moon
6: Really cool, but the colours blend together
8: Good, but a little dark

Composition is quite centred in several (2, 3, 8), which doesn't help them overly much.
And I so wish the glass had been cleaner in 5.

AND it'd be a lot easier to say something about the pics if they were numbered, given there are 8 of them all in all, which is a bit too much for any in depth critique, anyway - we suggest a maximum of 3 if you want people to go into some detail.

The photos do have numbers to the right of them. In number 5 i think the pattern on the glass adds to the subject scale on scale wise but thanks.

Thanks again, in the first shot you mentioned you aren't sure what it is, now me being a newbie is it important you know what you are looking at in the shot?

You're a few steps away from achieving your objective. What I mean is that each image is interesting, has some unique appeal but you're just not hitting the nail on the head. Things I noted after a very quick review is crop, including but not limited to the area of the frame you've put your subjects and the angles. That first one for example might look much better if more diagonal ;)

There's promise in these, keep at it!

#1 - Don't know what it is. And yes it's important for something to be recognizable unless it's a complete abstract. The viewer has to be able to relate to it in some way, and this one doesn't accomplish that. All I can tell is that it's something at the bottom of some water with bubbles all over it.

#2 - Good exposure, bad composition (Dead center of the frame)

#3 - Overexposed highlights and also virtually centered in the frame.

#4 - YAMS (Yet Another Moon Shot) but it is well composed.

#5 - Is it alive or dead? The background, especially that overexposed band along the top, is really distracting.

#6 - A very crooked photo of a tree with a busy background? Yes, I see the Lemurs in the background but the most prominent element in the shot is the tree and not the Lemurs. Also look at how much the fence is leaning. Had you shot it so that it was just that one Lemur cub on the right it would have been a much better shot, I think.

#7 - See #1

#8 - Slightly underexposed and composed right in the center of the frame. Increase the light on the center of the flower to the right, and then move everything to the left so that the right-hand flower is offset to the left of center.

Take a look at some of the rules of composition. Here is a place to start. Your exposures are generally very good overall but your presentation is lacking. Keep at it though, you'll get there.

wow thanks guys, i see where you are coming from. I've never had c&c so now that i have i'm positive i can take everything on board and implement it into future photos. :)

Number 5 i actually increased the white banding in post process, shame on me. I dunno i just thought it gave a type of shining through effect but failed. (It's alive)

Number 6 i tried to get the 'family' in one shot, the fence is like that naturally the lemur's are all level with the ground but i see it now.

I am well aware of the rule of thirds and i don't know why i don't just stick to it i guess i was trying to do something a little different or even a gamble but it sounds like that composition rule i should just stick to.

Again thank you.

In reality there are no true "Rules" in photography except for the physical laws of light an optics. The so-called "Rule of Thirds" is nothing more than an accepted guideline however it is based on the way in which most people view a photograph. Feel free to break the rules when you feel it improves your photograph, but the key is that you have to know of the rules before you break them and be able to justify, if only to yourself, why you chose to ignore them. Sometimes something does just plain look better when it's centered in my opinion but most of the time I've found that the rule of thirds does hold true.

Interesting, thanks.
