New Photographer re-d7000 and Yongnuo YN560-II Flash

If you want to take things easy, you can always sell that flash. I went into Best Buy yesterday and saw that they had a store brand (Insignia) i-TTL flash for Nikons. It sells for a mere pittance of $59. I can't attest for it, but I've read some good reviews. I even thought about buying it as an off camera flash for some around the yard macro.

Meh, the Yongnuo is generally a really good flash for the money. Unless you've gotten a bad one, your problem is likely somewhere in a setting, and if so, you'd be having the same difficulty with a different brand.

I can't remember if I had to set something on the flash for NIKON instead of CANON.

read the instructions.
make sure it's not on S1 nor S2 modes .. it's one of the other modes

also just because the tightening wheel is all the way tight, you still need to make sure it is pushed all hte way on the hotshoe. Nikon flashes have a lock which requires it to be positioned properly. The Yongnuo's don't have this and they can be easily mispositioned.

Okay, mine's a YN-560 rather than the 560-II, but that shouldn't matter.
Mine fired just fine on my D7000, in these modes: Manual, Aperture Priority (A), Shutter Priority (S), and Program (P).
It does NOT fire if the dial is set to Auto, Scene, U1 or U2.

I have the flash set on manual (M), not S1 or S2.

Double check to be SURE that your flash is seated correctly on the hotshoe, as Astro mentioned.
Then double check that your camera dial is set to either M, S, A or P, NOT Auto.

Is the D7000 brand new, or did you buy it used? If it you bought it used, the previous owner may have a setting changed somewhere that is causing the problem. Rather than trying to track down which setting is off, you might want to try just doing a reset back to factory settings on the camera.

I actually have a 500EX. It works in all modes (M,A,S,P, Auto, Scene, U1 & U2) as I probably had flash programmed in U1 & U2. But in full auto it also pops up the body flash but the Yongnuo still flashes. And it does not flash on the Auto NoFlash setting.

I stand (sit, actually) corrected. Mine also goes off in Auto and scene modes (and I assume U1 and U2, but I definitely do NOT have flash programmed into them; they're my wildlife settings). I think my flash shut itself off while I was testing and I didn't notice! Oopsie!
