New to HSS

As the title says, I am new to High Speed Sync. I was playing with my new speedlight today (thank you UPS and Amazon Prime) and found a few horizontal lines on some of my shots with 1/8000 shutter speed. I assume this is due to frequency of the light in HSS?

Just wanna make sure so I don't teach myself the wrong information...thanks!

Thanks for the video and reply; though, the issue I saw in my photo was not what he was explaining. I am aware that the shutter curtain can be shown in the image at higher shutter speeds, I've had that issue and learned already lol.

The issue I have now (sorry I do not have a picture of it) is that it looks like a horizontal wave is going through the image. Could this be to the flash not having enough power on 1/1 for HSS and the waves of flash change based on available power giving the effect described?

That does sound like the flash is unable to maintain the pulses during HSS. Also, I'm pretty sure you will not get 1/1 power in HSS. To have enough power to keep the bursts going through the exposure, the flash cannot fire beyond a certain power level. In other words, it can't recycle during the exposure, it ain't got time fo' dat!

See what happens if you reduce the flash power.
