Im new to Cameras myself, but Id wager its much better to spend a little more for your first outlay, rather than being stuck with something cheap right now. I was lucky enough to get a 60D as my first, but take a look at the basic DSLRs by Canon, Sony, Nikkon etc and see what they offer. Don't get a Panasonic

And im guessing the OP isn't a photographer some how

Do not, no matter what get the Canon T3. It is 12 MP which always looks really sloppy especially for landscape photography. Check out the Canon T3i.

Do not, no matter what, assume that megapixels directly relate to image quality. It does not. You can take landscapes just as well with a 12 megapixel camera as you can with a 21mp camera.

Actually, I'm going to suggest Pentax. IMO, the most under-rated of the semi-major players, and the best value for the dollar, AND they don't make up their own standards for things like flash shoes!

I agree.... that and Sony recently received a JUNK rating on their stock value..... they may not be around much longer! Pentax makes great bodies... and has been around forever!

Another option you can check out would be to purchase through Best Buy, where you can make monthly payments on a new camera; you'll also have a bigger selection of cameras to choose from, as a result of the payment plan. Their selection in-store isn't the biggest, (All BB's are the same; Canon/Nikon's on display for DSLR, that's it) but they carry all four major brands online. I'd also suggest getting your hands on as many cameras as you can before you decide to buy one. I researched A LOT and got plenty of helpful information from everyone here on the forum. Be clear in what you are asking and everyone here will gladly help you out.
