newbie help please

well have been goofing around with old cameras and stuff that was handed down to me and now id like to buy a camera and i was wondering whats a good starter cam id like to stay about 500-700 but can go up if needed

Are you looking for Canon or Nikon or other??

It depends on what you want to do with your camera now and in the future. For entry level, I think the Nikon D40 or a Canon XT/XTi/Xs/Xsi are all good choices and affordable.

Check your local Craigslist for good deals, as well as the for sale section of this site!

well im an avid backpacker and would like to take some great photos while on my trips also i play with photo shop a lot so just stuff to dink around with if thats any help
